As its first flagship program, Oxygen Positive aims to create a village-level grassroots movement to provide environmental, health, social and economic benefits to communities. We envision Panchayat Sanctuary to manifest as a dense green cover that emerges from within the community. Using knowledge and information about indigenous trees and studying emerging research of more oxygen giving and carbon sequestering species, these sanctuaries aim to strengthen local biodiversity, build resilience towards changing climate, support income generation and livelihoods; all this while building the community’s relationship with nature. Panchayat Sanctuary aspires to be the largest citizen led movement to contribute towards the Green India Mission actively and consistently. Over the next three years, Oxygen Positive envisions transforming 20,000 villages and communities in India.
